KEY FEATURES

This course was launched by the SQA in June 2007.  The course has been updated to take into account new technologies such as Web Page Design, Multimedia, Animation and Digital Photography.  In addition, learners will also have the opportunity to gain a National Progression Award in Web Design Fundamentals, the European Computer Driving Licence and also PC Passport at Intermediate level.

COURSE CONTENT
A selection of core units includes:

PC Passport: Introduction to the Internet and On-line Communication; Office and Personal Productivity Applications; Digital Media Elements for Applications; Numeracy; Communication; Core Mathematics 3; Computer Networking Fundamentals; Troubleshoot and Secure IT Systems; Install and Maintain Computer Hardware, Computer Hardware and System Fundamentals, Interactive Multimedia for Website Development; Software Development (Intermediate 2), Introduction to Computer Programming; PC Passport: Spreadsheet and Database; Website Design and Development; Web Design Fundamentals; Personal Development Planning.

ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS

A minimum of three passes at Standard Grade (or equivalent) at band 3 or above, or Intermediate 2 at B and C (or equivalent) preferably including English. In some cases a combination of Standard Grades and appropriate modules may be acceptable.

PROGRESSION

Successful completion of 12 units allows direct entry to the HNC Computing course at Central College.  Successful completion of 16 units allows candidates to choose from the following courses: HND Computing Software Development; HND Computing Technical Support; HNC Interactive Media. The course equips learners with practical and vocational skills which provide opportunities for employment in junior positions within the Multimedia, Web Design or Networking Industries.
