KEY FEATURES
This course is designed for those who wish to pursue a career in hairdressing. The first year of the course will enable people to develop and master all of the basic skills that are required for the successful hairdresser. The 2nd year of this course will allow candidates to consolidate their hairdressing skills and develop more elaborate techniques. Work experience is an essential part of the course and candidates will be required to secure a work placement.

COURSE CONTENT
A selection of core units includes:

YEAR 1: Level 5: Shampoo, Condition and Scalp Massage; Blow Drying Techniques; Setting and Winding Techniques for Hair; Ladies Hairdressing: Basic Cutting Categories; Mix, Apply and Remove Hair Colour; Selling Skills and Applying Practical Skills.

Progression to year 2 will be subject to a positive progress report from year 1.

YEAR 2:
Level 6: Hair Colouring and Lightening; Colour Correction; Combination Cutting; Style Dress and Finish Hair; Styling for a Total Look, Commercial Experience, Hairdressing Long Hair Design and Creative Cutting.

ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.  Applicants who have relevant experience in hairdressing may be able to join year two of the course. Entry will be on a successful interview with the Course Leader.  Applicants should display qualities, which enable them to communicate easily with the public.

PROGRESSION

On successful completion of the course learners can choose to go into industry and become Modern Apprentices at Level 3 with the associated core skills or if preferred, the Higher National Certificate in Hairdressing.
