KEY FEATURES This two year course provides learners with a wide understanding of all aspects of design necessary for a career in Display Design. Its focus on three-dimensional design enables learners to develop their creative abilities, artistic skills and personal and professional effectiveness necessary to follow careers in this and other areas of spatial design. The HND qualification as well as the art and design portfolio learners complete has also enabled Diplomates to pursue their education to degree level at Art Schools. This is the only further education course in Display Design, at this level, available outside London.
COURSE CONTENT A selection of core units includes:
YEAR 1: Display Design: Special Promotions; Drawing For 3D Design; Display Design: Seasonal; Exhibition Design; Life Drawing;
YEAR 2: Display Design: In Store Display; Display Design: Prestige Design; Mixed Media Portfolio; Professional Design Practice; 2 week commercial work placement.
ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS Two Higher Grade passes at grade C or above, preferably including Art or English and two other passes at Standard Grade (or equivalent) at band 3 or above; or completion of NQ Art & Design (or equivalent). All applicants will be required to submit a portfolio of recent work.
Successful completion of the course can lead to direct employment within the country?s top retail organisations. Currently demand in this employment sector outstrips supply. Previous diplomates are Display Designers with Levi, French Connection, Habitat, Ikea, Frasers, BHS, Marks & Spencer, and many other retail organisations. This course can also provide articulation routes to 1st or 2nd year entry at Scottish Art Schools and appropriate courses at universities.
