KEY FEATURES
This course aims to develop an understanding and competence in accounting concepts and practices. It focuses on traditional and current accounting skills along with the information technology that is necessary for those wishing to meet the requirements of employers in today?s job market.  The course is assessed on an on-going basis with graded assessments at the end of each year. It is particularly suited to those wishing to progress to a university course.

COURSE CONTENT
A selection of core units includes:
Recording Financial Information; Management Accounting using Information Technology; Financial Reporting and Analysis; Management Accounting for Decision Making; Business Taxation.

A selection of optional units includes:
Economic Issues, an Introduction; Business Law, an Introduction; IT in Business - Spreadsheets; Auditing; Income Tax.

ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS
Two Higher Grade passes at grade C or above in relevant subject areas and three other passes at Standard Grade (or equivalent) at band 3 or above. Entry into the 2nd year of the course is available to learners who have completed a Higher National Certificate in Accounting with a minimum of 12 credits including all mandatory credits.

PROGRESSION

Successful learners can apply for positions in accounting firms or in accounts departments in businesses, government bodies, etc. They may progress to 2nd or 3rd year of a relevant degree course.  Some exemptions can be gained from examinations of professional bodies such as the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA). Completion of HND Accounting also allows progression on to the Technician Stage of the Association of Accounting Technicians qualification.
