KEY FEATURES This one year course is designed to introduce learners to the range of knowledge and skills associated with future employment in the business sector. It also provides an opportunity for further study at HNC level for those learners who successfully complete this NC course. Assessments during the course are ongoing and involve both practical and theoretical tasks.
COURSE CONTENT A selection of core units includes:
The National Certificate in Business at level 5 will be awarded to candidates who achieve 12 units at level 5 or above. These will be made up as follows:
Eight mandatory units: Recording Cash Data, PC Passport: IT Software - Spreadsheet and Database; PC Passport: IT Software - Word Processing and Presenting Information; Communications; Enterprise Activity; Marketing: Basic Principles; Skills for Customer Care; Market Operations and the Scottish Economy.
A selection of optional units includes:
The UK Economy; Marketing Mix; Working with Others; Business Enterprise; Business Decision Areas: Finance and Human Resource Management; Business Decision Areas: Marketing and Operations; Financial Accounting: An Introduction.
ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS A minimum of three relevant standard grade passes at grade 3 or above (or equivalent), one of which should be English.
Learners who successfully complete the course will be considered for entry to various HNC courses across the College, e.g. HNC/D in Business. For those learners who may not wish to progress immediately to further study, the course also equips you with practical and vocational skills which provide opportunities for employment in the business sector.
