KEY FEATURES
This course aims to develop a basic understanding of accounting concepts and practices. It focuses on traditional and current accounting skills along with the information technology that is necessary for those wishing to meet the requirements of employers in today's job market. The course is assessed on an on-going basis with a graded assessment at the end of the year. It is particularly suited to those wishing to progress to the HND Accounting course.

COURSE CONTENT
A selection of core units includes:
Recording Financial Information; Preparing Final Accounts; Using Financial Accounting Software; Management Accounting using Information Technology; Cost Accounting.

A selection of optional units includes:
Economic Issues: an Introduction; Business Law: an Introduction; IT in Business - Spreadsheets.

ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS
One Higher Grade pass at grade C or above in a relevant subject area and three other passes at Standard Grade (or equivalent) at band 3 or above; or successful completion of a group of National Qualification units including communication and a range of financial and management accounting units.

PROGRESSION

On successful completion of the HNC Accounting, learners can apply for positions in accounting firms or within accounts departments. It is recommended that they continue on to the 2nd year of the HND Accounting course (pg 64) which will allow the possibility of progression to the 2nd or 3rd year of a relevant degree course. In addition, exemption can be gained from the foundation level examinations for professional associations such as the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA). Learners who have completed an HNC in Accounting can progress straight to the Technician Level of the Association of Accounting Technicians.
