KEY FEATURES The aim of this course is to provide learners with a broad range of skills and knowledge necessary to ensure a wide range of employment opportunities and/or progression to further study. The course will develop a range of specialist IT skills together with project management, research and planning skills.
COURSE CONTENT A selection of core units includes: YEAR 1: IT in Business - Word Processing and Presentation Applications; Spreadsheets; Databases; Office Administration; Office Technologies; Recording Financial Transactions; Developing Skills for Personal Effectiveness.
YEAR 2: IT in Business - Advanced Word Processing; Advanced Spreadsheets and Advanced Databases; Office Management; Business Information Management; Project Management; Presentation Skills.
A selection of optional units includes:
Marketing; Law; Managing People and Organisations; Desktop Publishing; Creating a Culture of Customer Care; Economics; Using Financial Accounting Software; Shorthand.
ECDL Learners also have the opportunity to undertake the ECDL or Advanced ECDL qualifications with timetabled tutor support available.
ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS Two Higher Grade passes at C or above, (preferably English; alternatively, Modern Studies, History, Economics or Administration is accepted) and two other passes at Standard Grade (or equivalent) at band 3 or above.
PROGRESSION Successful learners may gain entry into 2nd or 3rd year degree programmes at university. The degree courses that articulate with this course are BA Management, Technology and Enterprise and BA Business at Glasgow Caledonian University; BA Information Management and BA Human Resource Management at The University of the West of Scotland. Successful learners have also gained employment as Personal Assistants and Administrators in the public and private sector
